Harbin Grand Theatre is one of the world's most iconic examples of contemporary architecture and a landmark of Harbin's status as a UNESCO City of Music. Designed by the internationally acclaimed MAD Architects led by Ma Yansong, the theatre opened in 2015 on Cultural Island (文化岛) in Songbei District. Inspired by Harbin's snowy landscape, frozen rivers, and surrounding wetlands, its flowing white exterior appears sculpted by wind and ice, blending seamlessly into the natural environment. The complex includes a 1,538-seat Grand Theatre, a 414-seat Small Theatre, exhibition spaces, public viewing platforms, and scenic rooftop walkways.
